Cristiano Ronaldo has completed his move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr, but reports had suggested he could return to England with Newcastle if they reach the Champions League

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has shed light on suggestions the Magpies have a clause allowing them to potentially sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo, who left Manchester United in November, was unveiled by new club Al-Nassr on Tuesday. He has joined the Saudi side on a mega-money contract, but reports on the continent suggested a move to Newcastle – subject of a Saudi-backed takeover in 2021 – could be on the cards.

Howe was asked about the reports ahead of his team’s meeting with Premier League leaders Arsenal. While he had no plans to play down Ronaldo’s quality and legacy, he made it clear a move to St James’ Park wasn’t in the veteran’s future.

In his words:

“We wish Cristiano all the best in his new venture but there’s no truth in that from our perspective,”
